TIFF’s “Shook” Trailer Premiere — Coming to Theatres August 8

The official trailer for Shook is out now, giving audiences a first look at the intense Canadian drama arriving in theatres on August 8, 2025. Directed by Amar Wala, the film follows Ashish (“Ash”), played by Saamer Usmani, as he confronts personal and family struggles. Supporting him through it all is his best friend Rohit, portrayed by rising talent Faizan Khan.

Set in the heart of Scarborough, Shook explores Ash’s journey as an aspiring writer who reconnects with his estranged father after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. As Ash navigates family tensions, career uncertainty, and a new romance, Faizan Khan’s (Rohit) stands by him — a relatable anchor amid the chaos. Rohit, Ash’s ride-or-die, offers levity, camaraderie, and the kind of loyalty that brings warmth to the film’s intense emotional core.

Ash, Rohit, and Gilbert miss the last train home after a wild night out.

Though a supporting role, Khan’s portrayal of Rohit brings authenticity to friendship on-screen. He’s the confidant in noodle shops and late-night hangouts, the guy who reminds Ash who he is — even when everything else feels shaky.

The trailer teases tense family confrontations, poignant moments between Ash and his father (Bernard White), and glimpses of late-night chats with Rohit and their circle of friends. Faizan Khan’s presence adds an additional layer of loyalty, belonging and honestly, in a way that’s hard to forget.
